In terms of wedding gowns, lace is showing up in more, and different, ways. These are not the lace dresses of the past, bringing to mind that awful tablecloth your grandmother always pulled out for special occasions. In a blending of the Victorian vintage and the modern, we are seeing pairings of lace with other fabrics such as tulle or chiffon, giving these dresses a variety of texture and unique looks. The silhouettes are leaning more towards form-fitting trumpets and mermaids with exaggerated sweetheart necklines and corsets to add touches of glamour. Additionally, we're seeing a few slits and open backs showing up, just to keep things a little sexy! The lace gowns of 2012, with their echoes of soft feminine styling mixed with a few subtly racy surprises, are certainly something to be considered by a fashion-forward bride!
Vintage lace and frills can be found in areas such as wedding theme this spring and summer as well. If your wedding is outdoors, you may consider making the reception garden-party inspired! As few ideas include a location with lush landscaping and wrought-iron furniture, centerpieces of a variety of flowers in soft colors and candle holders with crystal or glass details, as well as place settings with vintage-inspired china patterns. And why not add touches of lace to napkins and tablecloths while you're at it? Additionally, invitations and place cards can be printed in any number of fancy, calligraphy-style fonts to make your guests feel that they are in the midst of a grand Victorian party!
The vintage-inspired lace can be seen in other areas of wedding planning as well this year, such as the cake decoration. Pretty much anything goes with your cake - there are so many great bakery options in most areas that it's easy to find one that will tailor a beautiful cake to fit your vision! A popular trend in cakes right now seems to be a gold edible ink that can be designed to mimic the lace overlay of a dress to carry that rich, Victorian feeling throughout your entire wedding. Another trend we're seeing in cakes is pure white - decorations and all! This is a subtle way to add touch of lace without it being overwhelming, as the texture will blend in when everything is the same color.
You may have thought lace was a thing of the past, but with this year's trends, it's probably safe to say that lace is back in new and exciting ways!
