We’ve let you know all about the timeline for the logistics of your wedding – when you need to order your dress, bridesmaids dresses, tuxes, etc. But what about a beauty timeline? What do you need to start doing, and when, in order to look your best for the big day? We’ve been browsing articles for suggestions and here’s what we’ve come up with!
12 months before the wedding
Get a manicure – everyone wants to see that ring! Start a maintenance program of treating your cuticles with oil and hand cream to keep your fingers looking healthy and hydrated.
11 months before the wedding
Start working out on a regular basis – make it part of your daily routine! You may want to hire a trainer, at least for a few sessions, to get some pointers and help you set up that routine. Also get into the habit of eating healthier – think fruits, veggies, and lots of water. You’ll want to cut back on salt, saturated fats, and alcohol as these can all make you look puffy and dry out your skin.
8 months before the wedding
Time for a few more habits – exfoliate your body with a scrub weekly, especially your arms, neck, chest, and shoulders, as these will likely be shown off by your dress. Also start weekly conditioning treatments for your hair – talk to your regular stylist about what she’d recommend as a good at-home treatment for your particular hair type.
6 months before the wedding
Visit a dermatologist to address any skin concerns you may have so that you can make a game plan for how to treat them before the wedding. Whatever your skin concern, be it acne or wrinkles, it’s a good idea to start a regimen now and stick to it so that your skin has a chance to adjust to it and you can see results.
5 months before the wedding
Start thinking about what you want to do with your hair and makeup. Research makeup artists and hair stylists (if you don’t already have one you trust) in your area. Look at pictures and start a collection of looks you like that you might want to try.
4 months before the wedding
Book an appointment for laser hair removal if it’s a procedure you’re interested in trying. Begin whitening your teeth, either through your dentist’s office or with strips you apply yourself. Use an intensive lip treatment on a regular basis from here on out to make sure your lips stay soft and smooth.
3 months before the wedding
Book a trial run for your hair and makeup. Be sure to bring your headpiece with you to the hair trial and a picture of your gown doesn’t hurt either, just to give you and your stylist an idea of what the finished product will look like. If you’re planning to do your hair yourself, it’s not a bad idea to start practicing now! The same goes for your makeup – bring along pictures of looks you’d like to achieve if you’re having your makeup done professionally. If you plan to do it yourself, begin experimenting with different colors to see what looks best with your skin tone. If you’re thinking of changing up your fragrance for the big day, start looking around for that as well.
2 months before the wedding
Visit a brow specialist who can shape your brows perfectly for your face shape. If you’re planning to wax any areas – your legs, face, armpits, bikini line – start going every other week. Test out spray tans or gradual tanning lotions now, as well. Let your bridesmaids know now if you want them to do their hair or makeup a certain way so that they can make their own preparations.
1 month before the wedding
Get a super-intense, deep-cleansing facial now. Also, if you’re planning any cosmetic dental procedures, now is the time for those. Also, if you’re wanting to get a Botox treatment, this is the time for that, just in case you have any bruising or placement issues – these will calm down in a month’s time.
2 weeks before the wedding
Stock up on your travel-sized items for the honeymoon – one less thing to worry about! If you color your hair, now is a good time to do a touch-up. Also, if you’re planning to do a straightening or relaxing treatment on your hair, now is the time for that. It gives the treatment a chance to settle into your hair.
1 week before the wedding
If you’re planning a facial, make sure it’s a gentle one this time – you don’t want to have any reactions that you can’t get rid of by the wedding date. Also, make sure you do your final brow and waxing appointments now. Any closer to the wedding and you risk redness and irritation. Start applying your self-tanner or go to your spray tan appointment.
2 days before the wedding
Get a massage! It’ll help you relax after all the months of planning you’ve been doing! Also, get a mani/pedi. This way, the polish will have time to harden but it will still be fresh enough that chips are unlikely. However, it’s not a bad idea to buy a bottle of the polish color yourself to fix any unanticpated chips. Put together an emergency beauty kit to take with you to the ceremony – blotting papers, hair pins, nail polish, nail file, lip gloss, Kleenex – so that it’s ready to go.
Wedding Day!
Be sure to eat something! Even if your stomach is all in excited knots, don’t skip breakfast. You’ll need the energy to make it through the day! Grab your emergency kit on your way out the door. Get your hair done first, about 2 hours before you take your pictures. Makeup comes next, about an hour before pictures start. Don’t forget to smile and enjoy your day!
