Hourglass
What makes you an hourglass? Your waist measurement is smaller than your bust or hips, while those measurements are about the same. Your waist is defined and your body is fairly proportional.
Gowns to look for: Your in luck! This body shape can wear almost any style of gown well. Showing off your curves in a fitted gown is definitely an option, and being sure to accentuate your smallest area (the waist) is a must. Gowns with a drop waist will also be something to look for. Your most flattering styles will be sheath, A-line, ball gowns, mermaids, and trumpets.
Round/Apple
What makes you an apple? Your bust, waist, and hip measurements are almost the same. Your waist is not necessarily defined and your shoulders may be small, but broad.
Gowns to look for: Your body is going to look best in a gown with a high waistline-this will elongate your body! You will want the skirt to fit at the smallest part of your body and then to flow away from that point. Also, a fitted bodice will create definition at your waistline, so corsetbacks are definitely your friend. Your most flattering styles will be empire waists and ball gowns.
Rectangle
What makes you a rectangle? Your hips and shoulders are balanced and your waist measurement will likely be smaller than your bust. You have long legs and your waist is not very defined.
Gowns to look for: While this body shape can essentially wear most gown styles, it's all about creating the illusion of curves if you have a rectangle-shaped body. Your gown should have a well-defined waist-corsets will work wonders! Embellishment at the natural waist can be a big help in this department. Your most flattering gown styles are going to be empires, A-lines, ball gowns, and trumpets or mermaids.
Inverted triangle
What makes you an inverted triangle? Your shoulders are wider than your hips. You likely have a fairly full bust and your physique may be more on the athletic side.
Gowns to look for: Don't be afraid to show off your shoulders. Strapless is your friend, we promise. Covering your shoulders could very well make them appear broader. Full skirts with interesting textures are going to be the key to balancing your upper and lower halves. Your most flattering styles are going to be ball gowns, mermaids, and trumpets.
Pear
What makes you a pear? Your frame is likely small, with narrow shoulders. Your hips are wider than your shoulders. Your bust measurement may be fairly small.
Gowns to look for: You will be able to enhance your arms and shoulders with a gown that has interesting sleeves or a deep V-neckline. Focus on finding a flowing skirt that won't cling to your lower half. The smallest part of your waist should have some kind of embellishment on it to draw the eye upwards. You most flattering styles are going to be A-line, empire, and ball gown.
